Ok, so was it just us or was this past June the busiest month of all time? Why so many things all at the exact same time? Why?
Ed is currently enjoying a gorgeous holiday in Italy (I am very jealous), and I have just wrapped up the school year! School’s out, baby!
I think I measure time in lunchboxes now, so approximately 388 school lunchboxes later, I get to move onto summer lunchboxes! It never ends, but it feels like a good chance to regroup. What worked, what didn’t, how can we do better next year, and exactly how many tupperware, lunchboxes and water bottles do we need to replace?
That’s future Katie’s problem, though. As soon as I pack this duffel bag that I’ve been staring at for days and get my eldest kid on the overnight camp bus, I plan on slowing allllll the way down for July and a good chunk of August. Now that they’re school aged, 99% of my time is spent either worrying about, or carrying out big kid logistics, especially from August-June. Scheduling all sorts of shit. Meal planning. Booking (too many) extra-curriculars, and just generally getting them from one place to another. That’s just part of being a parent, this isn’t a huge revelation, and it doesn’t stop just because it’s summer, but my intention for the next month or so is to focus on enjoying our time together, being more spontaneous, letting my kids have a little more freedom, teaching them to enjoy being bored and how to make their own fun. Go find some friends at the park and stay outside until it’s dark, here’s how you microwave bagel bites and hot dogs, eat too many popsicles, sit and read a book all day, skip rocks, cook an egg on the pavement, sidewalk chalk a hop scotch - good old fashioned 90s vibes.
I also plan on BBQing a LOT. There is nothing better than grilling, chilling, and dining al fresco. We’ve had a good run so far, but there’s always more to grill - stone fruit season is right around the corner, and those peaches aren’t ready for what I have planned.

A few grill-adjacent things I am excited to make from around the internet:
Everything
and are makingProbably a lot more but that’s where I’m at right now. A whole fish would be dope. Ribs. Mmmm.
ANYWAY, you will see us more active on our instagram over the summer because while I am slowing down, speed wise, my phone remains firmly planted in my hand. Especially if I make food that looks and tastes good that my kids actually eat.
If we come up with any stellar recipes you NEED TO MAKE? You WILL be getting an email, mmk?!
Now! When you finish reading this newsletter, go share it with your friends, then immediately shut your laptops/put your phones down, go run around at the park with your kids, and grab some hot dogs and corn on the cob for dinner, because it’s summer and them’s the rules!
XOXO
